So you want your kids to learn
how to ski - like this?

Kids on Skis - Tips on kids ski clothes and ski gear

Not sure how?
It all starts here... at the ski school!

Tips on how to ski

Most ski resorts have ski schools that teach children and first time skiers how to ski.

Professionally trained children's ski instructors are excellent teachers and they love teaching kids how to snow ski, so putting your children in a ski school will give them a great start on the slopes.

However, there are a number of things to consider, before you book their first lesson.

Be sure to:

  • ask how the ski lessons are structured, how your child will learn to ski, what happens if he gets cold or wishes to stop skiing after a short time.

  • ask how many children are in the class, as this will be a good indication of how much time is spent "one-on-one" with the teacher.

  • ask what is included in the ski lesson. For instance, do the lessons include rental of kids ski equipment such as skis, ski boots and a ski helmet? Chances are that they are not included.

  • choose a how to snow ski programme that is right for your child. One that is compatible with his skills and abilities.

  • choose a how to ski programme that will teach him the right techniques, such as how to turn, stop and ski. Your kids should ideally learn to snow ski the correct way from the very beginning.

  • select a how to snow ski programme that is appropriate for the age of your child. You do not want your pre-schooler in a class full of older school children!

  • choose a certified ski instructor, who makes your child feel comfortable and at ease. Learning how to ski should be fun and your child will progress a lot faster if he enjoys the snow ski lessons.

  • consider private lessons to start with, especially if your child is very shy or feels uncomfortable in a group setting. Private lessons can be expensive but it may just give your child the start that he needs.

Skiing is a great winter sport for the whole family - and snow ski lessons are offered for all ages and abilities. Never consider yourself too old!

Let the experts teach your kids how to ski - then you can enjoy their proud faces afterwards, when they show you how far they have come. And most of all - have some fun together.

So see you on the slopes this winter? Yep, I will be the one on the Bunny slope practicing how to stop, without falling over!!!

As I said, it is never too late to start!
