Kids Ski Equipment

Is it really that important?

Kids Ski Equipment

Yes, kids ski equipment is very important. In fact properly fitted kids ski boots, kids ski helmets and skis can make the difference between an average day and a great day on the slopes.

So what childrens ski equipment do my little skiers need, you may ask? For a fun day in the snow they actually need exactly the same ski equipment as you do.

Required Kids Ski Equipment:

  • Kids Ski Boots
  • A pair of good, well fitted ski boots, that feel comfortable, is the key to your child's skiing performance. There should be no pain and his feet should never feel numb or cold.

  • Kids Skis
  • A pair of skis that have bindings mounted on them. The bindings attach your child's ski boots to his skis. Make sure you have the bindings set and/or checked by an expert, as the bindings release your child from his skis, if he falls.

  • Kids Skis Poles
  • A pair of light, yet strong, ski poles is important to your child's balance. However your child may only need these if he has progressed past the beginners stage.

  • Kids Ski Helmets
  • A quality ski helmet is highly recommeded as it protects your child's head from injury in case of a fall. Wearing a kids ski helmet will definitely keep your child a lot safer on the slopes.

Whether you wish to rent or buy all your kids ski equipment, kids ski helmets and kids ski boots depends on your budget and your circumstances. If you live close to a ski resort you may have the opportunity to take your children skiing more often. However if you only ski once a year it is likely to be cheaper to rent all the childrens ski equipment.

A great advantage by renting kids ski gear is that your children can change their ski boots and skis throughout the day if necessary. This is handy if something doesn't fit properly or they would like to try something else.

In addition renting all your childrens ski equipment will give you flexibility (and more space for other items!), as you don't have to travel with all the kids ski gear in the car or on the plane. Sounds good to me... as it is already a bit of an artform to pack for a whole family!

Whatever you decide to do make sure that all your kids ski equipment, especially their ski boots, ski helmets and skis are fitted by a person trained to do so. This is extremely important for your children's safety.
